Buildings & Grounds
Objective
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and cleaning of Buildings, Grounds, and Parking Lots at the County Office Complex in Canton, including the Human Services Center on State Highway 310 and the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility located at 7 Commerce Lane.
Types of Services

General plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and mechanical repairs.

Heating and air conditioning maintenance and repairs

Minor construction and alteration

Assist other County departments in rearranging office or transporting furniture.

Grounds maintenance.

Janitorial services.

Pick up and storage of surplus equipment.

Interior and exterior painting.

Snow removal.

St. Lawrence County Buildings & Grounds Department employs 32 full-time employees.

Staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week

Building Maintenance Staff on duty from 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. , 7 days per week

Custodial Staff on duty evenings and overnights.
Responsibilities
-
Custodial Staff is responsible for the cleaning of our buildings, moving of furniture/office equipment, and light maintenance tasks
-
Building Maintenance Staff performs the majority of Building and Grounds Mechanical & Electrical Systems repairs. Also responsible for smaller renovation projects, and installation of data wiring, etc. Preventative maintenance is a priority of the Department, and is performed primarily by County Staff.

Groundskeeper’s are responsible for maintaining the lawns and parking lots for all our buildings, and the cemetery at the Old County Home site.

Responsible for locks and access control
