The office of County Clerk is one that is steeped in history and tradition and yet an office prepared to face the future challenges of government.

 

Tracing its heritage to Medieval England, the clerk was appointed by the king to travel with the circuit judge. The clerk was responsible for maintaining the court files, documenting land transactions, and representing the crown at local occasions.

 

Over 700 years have passed since those early days and the much of the responsibilities remain the same. This site is intended to inform you of the services available from the St. Lawrence County Clerk’s office. We, as record keepers of vital documents relating to business, property ownership, military discharges, naturalization, and civil and criminal cases, are here to help you gain access to the public records you need to find. In addition, our office serves as an official passport application acceptance center; pistol permit application processing, and notary public licenses.
