ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY “OPT-OUT” FORM REQUEST
New York State’s new gun law (NY SAFE Act) allows pistol permit holders to request that their information be kept private and confidential by completing and submitting a State Police “Opt-Out” form, which can be found here. The form will also be posted on the State Police website as of February 15th at www.troopers.ny.gov/optoutfoil. We will also have the form available at the County Clerk's Office and at the 4 St. Lawrence County DMV Offices.
According to the NY SAFE Act, pistol permit holders will have 60 days after the forms are made available by the State Police to submit completed forms to the Clerk’s Office. It is important to note that if the form is not completed and submitted to the County Clerk's Office, the pistol permit holder's information would be public under the state's Freedom of Information law.
In order for pistol permit holders to “Opt-Out” and have their information kept private, the form needs to be completed in its entirety and mailed to:
St. Lawrence County Clerk
c/o Pistol Permit Office
48 Court Street
Canton, NY 13617
If you have any additional questions regarding the “Opt-Out” provision, please call the
St. Lawrence County Clerk’s Office at 315-379-2237 and we will be happy to help you.
