St. Lawrence County Department of Highways 

Basic Overview of Services

The St. Lawrence County Department of Highways employs 105 Full time employees.  Employees in administration, engineering, 3 maintenance areas, bridge construction, bridge maintenance, machinery shop, traffic safety, and tree crew are responsible for planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of 579 miles of paved roadway and 202 bridges.  They are also responsible for winter maintenance of 118 miles of State roads and 144 miles of County roads plus 555 miles of roadside mowing during the summer months.

Unique to many Counties, St. Lawrence County performs almost all their own work including surveying, paving, bridge construction, signing, striping, blasting and guide rail installation.
