St. Lawrence County Office of the Indigent Defense

 

The Office of Indigent Defense consists of the Public Defender’s Office, the Conflict Defender’s Office, and the Assigned Counsel Program. The mission of the Public Defender’s and the Conflict Defender’s Offices is to provide, in conjunction with the Assigned Counsel Program, competent legal representation to indigent individuals in those areas where free legal representation is a right of those individuals, and as mandated by in Article 18-A of the County law of the State of New York: in all criminal cases where a sentence of imprisonment is possible and in Family Court cases, in which parental rights are in issue (custody and visitation, abuse and neglect, family offenses, termination of parental rights) or in which incarceration is possible (violation of orders, including violations of child support
