St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging

Services

  • Nutrition Program - provides congregate dining and home-delivered meals to age 60+ residents and their spouses.
  • EPIC - New York State's Senior prescription plan for those 65 and older. Almost 95,000 seniors already belong and are using their EPIC cards to save over half on the cost of their medicines.
  • Eldercare Locator - a nationwide, directory assistance service designed to help older persons and caregivers locate local support resources for aging Americans.
  • Volunteer Driver - provides transportation to non-Medicaid elderly having no other means of transportation, for medical reasons only.
  • SCSEP (Senior Community Services Employment Program) - provides employment and training for low income persons over the age of 55 in preparation for job placement.
  • EISEP (Expanded In-Home Services For The Elderly) - provides personal care, housekeeping/chore services, and case management for the frail elderly whose income and resources are above the Medicaid standard. Services are on a cost share basis.
  • Family Caregiver Support - Assistance for those caring for individual 60+ who has significant impairments of daily living.  Counseling, training, information and assistance, support groups and respite care.  Materials/videos are available to review or borrow from the new Caregiver's Resource Center location at the Office for the Aging.
  • Home Repair - provides labor and/or materials to help with minor home repairs when there are no other means available to the elderly homeowner.
  • WRAP (Weatherization, Referral and Packaging Program) - referrals made for Senior Citizens for assistance with energy related home modifications. Labor and/or materials are provided to assist with minor home repairs to those Seniors most in need and HEAP eligible.
  • Legal Services - provides legal counsel and advice in civil matters, legal representation in court, and administrative hearings for the elderly residents having no other access to legal counsel.
  • HIICAP (Health Insurance Information, Counseling, and Assistance Program) - volunteers help people with problems understanding medical bills, Medicare, Managed Care, and other health insurance. Pre-retirement and Long Term Care insurance counseling available.
  • Outreach - provides in-home assessments and counseling to older St. Lawrence County residents, and their families.
  • ROUK - "Are You Okay" is a daily phone call(s) at a preselected time(s) which provides a daily check on a person.  To apply call the Office for the Aging at 386-4730.
  • Carrier Alert Program - a reassurance and notification service which can provide peace of mind to the elderly or handicapped living alone, and their families. If your mail carrier notices that you have not picked up mail within 24 hours after delivery, he or she will report this to the postmaster, who will then notify the Office for the Aging.
