Annual Spring Triploid Grass Carp Sale
The St. Lawreence County Soil and Water Conservation District annual sells Triploid Grass Carp to local landowners for pond weed control. These fish eat a wide variety of aquatic plant species and can eat their weight in vegetation every day. They commonly reach weights in excess of 25 pounds and have been known to live as long as 10 years. Triploid Grass Carp are sterile and will not reproduce. The carp don’t work overnight and they won’t make your pond look like a swimming pool, but they can make a difference. Some pond plants are necessary for spawning, food, and cover. Grass carp are related to common carp and goldfish, but they don’t share the same bottom feeding habits. A New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) stocking permits are required before fish can be ordered. A fully completed permit application should be submitted to the DEC by early May to meet our early June delivery date.
