St. Lawrence County No-Till Grain Drill

The St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) through the Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) program realized there was a need for a no-till grain seeder here in the north county.

Last February an opportunity became available to obtain funding for the purchase of a No-Till Grain Drill. A grant application was submitted to the Great Lakes Commission for funding under the Great Lakes Basin Program for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control. We are pleased to announce that our grant application was approved and the funding has been received. A 7 foot Great Plains No-Till Grain Drill has been purchased. This equipment will have a grain or large seed box (oats, wheat, soybeans, peas, and orchard grass), a small seed box (alfalfa, trefoil, clover, timothy, canary grass) and a native grass box with agitator for fluffy seeds with chaff. The small size allows for ease in transportation, maneuverability, and the ability to pull with only a 45 horsepower tractor.

We anticipate demonstrations to be held next spring and then the drill will be available to farms for use. Even though all the details have not been worked out, an Interested Producer List has been developed. If you would like more information or to be added to our list, please contact the our office.
