Recycling in St. Lawrence County

St. Lawrence County Solid Waste Department utilizes a commingled recycling process. The County’s transfer stations have drop off points for two streams of recyclables.

Stream One: Glass, Metal (tin) and Plastic

• Glass
  
  
  • Bottles & Jar
  • Clear (flint), Green (emerald) & Brown (amber)
     
• Metal
  
  
  • “Tin” food cans
  • Aluminum cans, foil & pans
  • Aerosol spray cans (must be spent)
  • Bottle & Jar caps and lids
  • Other small metal items
     
• Plastic
  
  
  • Pourable (not open-mouthed) plastic bottles & jugs
  • Look for item 1-7 on the bottom

Stream Two: Paper and Cardboard

• Newspaper and inserts
• Magazine & catalogs
• Paper grocery bags
• “Junk mail” & envelopes
• Computer & office paper
• Books & publications, including phone books and paperbacks (no hardcover)
• Cereal boxes & other food boxes

• Rinse away all residue
• Remove and recycle metal caps & lids
• It is not necessary to remove labels or metal and plastic rings
• Crush larger cans, plastic bottles & jugs to the best of your ability
• Do not crush glass bottles & jars
• Breakdown / flatten all boxes
• Cut larger pieces of cardboard into 2’ x 2’ pieces & tie in bundles
