NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS ON ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY'S

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GRANT APPLICATION TO BE

SUBMITTED ON BEHALF OF

THE ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY LOCAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

 

St. Lawrence County, subject to approval by the Board of Legislators, plans to submit an application on behalf of the St. Lawrence County Local Development Corporation (SLCLDC) for funding under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program administered by the New York State Office of Community Renewal. The SLCLDC has asked the County to apply on its behalf for CDBG funds to support the creation of a Microenterprise Grant Fund. The CDBG program provides funds to local governments for housing, economic development and community facility projects, with the principal beneficiaries being persons with low or moderate incomes. Projects may also aid in eliminating slums and blight and in meeting urgent community needs. For Program Year 2009, approximately $12 million of CDBG funds are available for the Economic Development Program in New York State.

 

To provide County residents with opportunities to participate in the development of the application, TWO public hearings will be held. 

 

The first public hearing will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 5:30 PM local time in Conference Room 119 at the Office of Economic Development, Human Services Center, 80 State Highway 310, Canton, New York. This hearing will provide an opportunity to consider overall community needs, and review alternatives for CDBG projects in St. Lawrence County. The intent of this hearing is to consider the best use of CDBG funds in the community.

 

The second public hearing will be held at the same location on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 6:00 PM local time. At the second hearing, staff from the County Office of Economic Development will present a summary of the Economic Development grant proposal being developed on behalf of the St. Lawrence County Local Development Corporation, and will solicit comments on that proposal.

 

These hearings are being conducted in compliance with the requirements of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1977, as amended. Those unable to attend the public hearings may submit written comments on the grant application to the St. Lawrence County Office of Economic Development, 80 State Highway 310, Suite 6, Canton, NY 13617. Comments may also be phoned to the Office of Economic Development at (315) 379-9806. Comments will be accepted until one week after the final scheduled public hearing in Canton.

 

The Human Services Center is accessible to persons with disabilities. Special interpretive arrangements for residents with hearing impediments or those in need of translation from English can be arranged. Those individuals should contact the Office of Economic Development at 379-9806 so that necessary arrangements may be made.
